The Wonderful State of Nebraska

Claire Atkins, Resurrection House

Hi! My name is Claire Atkins and I am a member of the 2012-2013 class of Resurrection House in Omaha, NE. I have been blessed to serve for the past four months at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Omaha and at Voices for Children; a non-profit agency that promotes healthy sustainable lives for Nebraska’s children and families. As an intern at these wonderful sites I work 20 hours a week at St. Andrew’s focusing most of my time in youth and young adult ministry. I also teach a weekly Bible study class and in Lent I will be hosting a class on the documentary The Anatomy of Hate. I work 10 hours a week at Voices for Children doing anything and everything from stuffing envelopes to answering phones and occasionally I get to work on major, independent projects like interviewing candidates for the past election on children’s issues and helping to compile and edit the yearly Kids Count in Nebraska report.

Since moving to Omaha I have learned so much about discernment and what role I would like to have in the church as I move forward in life. In fact I am starting my own discernment process through St. Andrew’s in the next few weeks. I am really looking forward to all the wonderful things God is doing in me and through me in this wonderful community. I have benefited from this experience tremendously and am so thankful for the opportunity to serve in the wonderful state of Nebraska!
