JOB TITLE: Executive Director 

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Bookkeeper, Consultants

Location: Not defined, dependent on current candidate location

Travel: ~15% travel is required

JOB SUMMARY

The Executive Director has primary responsibility to lead the Episcopal Service Corps in the areas of program development, corps member recruitment, communications and network development, financial sustainability, and administration. The Executive Director serves as ex officio board member with primary responsibility to implement the vision of the Board.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Program Development

  • Mentor and support program directors in developing and sustaining local programs
  • Facilitate network of program directors for resource sharing and development of best practices
  • Recruit and support new ESC programs
  • Coordinate national gatherings for Program Directors

Corps Member Recruitment

  • Coordinate digital and in-person national recruitment activities with support of Recruitment Committee, Board and Program Directors
  • Plan and establish ESC presence at various events and institutions (Church-wide conferences, campus ministries, colleges and universities, diocesan events, eceumenical gatherings, etc.)
  • Coordinate with other faith-based volunteer programs to enhance recruitment activities and build best practices

Communications & Network Development

  • Broadly communicate the ESC story with constituents and potential partners by working with the Board to develop and implement internal and external communications strategies via digital and print media
  • Maintain and enhance ESC’s online presence through website and social media
  • Develop network of external stakeholders and partners

Financial Sustainability

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with funders, church bodies, parishes, and individual donors
  • Work with Board to develop and implement Development plan
  • Work with Development Committee to write grants to existing and new funders

Administration

  • Work with the Board to monitor and evaluate individual ESC programs to support them in meeting ESC program expectations
  • Maintain a database of all ESC programs, corps members, alumni, and other constituents
  • Work with the Treasurer and Board to develop and oversee annual budget
  • Ensure ESC accounting meets nonprofit best practices in execution and oversight

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Required:

  • 3-5 years non-profit leadership experience
  • Self motivated and able to work independently
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, donor database software, social media, etc)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and work in a team environment, as well as a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of professionals
  • Comfort operating at both the strategic level required for planning and the detailed level required for implementation
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • High organization skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Episcopal Church

Preferred:

  • Episcopalian
  • Strong familiarity with Episcopal Service Corps and yearlong service programs
